Time ... it just keeps ticking. Having left my job at the end of May you would have thought that I would have had plenty of time to prepare for our adventure, but one thing leads to another, and the more time you have - the more things you find to do. Of course the melt-down of the U.S. financial markets has managed to consume an unbelievable amount of webtime, searching, researching, studying and just plain panicking over the state of our financial situation as well as the state (California), the country and the world's. I am keeping my fingers crossed in hope of Change with the coming election.
While I've been messing about with our "paper" lives, John has been diligently working on our house, making small repairs, refinishing the floors, roof, etc. such that our house looks fantastic and is now hard to say goodbye to -- but a plan is a plan, and we've committed. It took us a bit longer than anticipated, but we have found a tenant and we move out in just 5 days! Packing has been an unbelievable chore. Yes, I'm a bit of a pack rat and we have been in the house for 12 years so you can imagine the clutter. After numerous trips to our various local charities I'm just too worn out now to look through much else. Little problem though, I'm still not packed for the trip! How is a girl to pack for a year in a backpack? This is an overwhelming task that I have yet to master. I know what to do...rule of 3s, less than you think, etc....but implementation is difficult.
Then there is the $1,000,000 question: where to first? Our first stop has been as much of a moving target as our departure date. Currently we are wavering between Nepal - for Himalayan trekking - or Bali for surfing. Coin toss anyone? We'll be moving into our camper van for a week or two while we sort out the final details and then its off to ......
be well,
Lisa
