Typically, our guide advises us, very few people get much rest here due to the altitude. Although I get a few hours of sleep, John has been restless all night and unfortunately, is feeling pretty sick again. We decide to press on and see how he is feeling at high camp - 400 meters higher. We will decide at that point whether to continue on foot, take a donkey, or head back down a little and wait a day until he recovers. It is pitch dark when we head out. We are already an hour behind schedule. Before we make it to high camp our guide insists that John give him his pack We make it to high camp and John is befriended by the operator of the teahouse there who pulls him aside to a coil warmer wher
e he has him take his shoes and socks off to warm up. After about an hour, we decide to continue on. We are now 2 hours behind schedule which concerns Saroj because the wind picks up considerably at the pass by 11 a.m. We trudge along. At this altitude I am simply focused on putting one foot in front of the other and slowly, very slowly making my way up the trail.
